Welp…That was fun

What a day of college football. The first four games on the picks went right down to the wire. Three other games also went down to the final moments!

Very quietly, Wake Forest is 6-0 after escaping Syracuse on the road 40-37. Wake Forest sits on top of the Atlantic standings in the ACC at 4-0. And don’t look now, but perhaps Florida State is improving after holding on to beat North Carolina 35-25.

How about THAT Red River Shoot-out between Texas and Oklahoma! The Sooners won 55-48. Texas was in full control and went full meltdown mode on defense in the second half. The Sooners made a quarterback swap at halftime and the Longhorns didn’t have an answer. Slowly but surely, the large lead the Longhorns had built up began to wilt and Oklahoma would seal the game in the final moments.  All of a sudden now, Oklahoma may have a new quarterback and is sitting at 6-0.

The SEC had some barn burners as well. Ole Miss outlasted Arkansas 52-51 in a thriller. Alabama and Texas A&M got into a shoot-out too with Texas A&M stunning the Tide 41-38. Alabama had two crucial turnovers after driving the length of the field which proved to be costly. And let’s just go ahead and put this here. Georgia appears to be the cream of the crop in the SEC and the nation as their defense continues to squash opposing offenses like bugs. Next up for the Dawgs is Kentucky.

The Iowa Hawkeyes remain undefeated after a big win against Penn State. It may be pretty smooth sailing for the Hawkeyes until the Big Ten Championship game as their schedule eases up. The Penn State game was their biggest hurdle. Now there are only three unbeaten teams in the Big Ten in Michigan State, Iowa, and Michigan. And yeah, Michigan got into a bit of a fight which took all four quarters.

Notre Dame was on the ropes again but squeaked by Virginia Tech in a wild game that went back and forth. I am not sure how Notre Dame fans do it week in and week out.

In the Pac 12, Oregon State somehow sits on top of the North standings, and both Arizona State and Utah are undefeated in conference play in the South.  The Sun Devils and Utes will face off this Saturday for control of the Pac-12 North.

On to Pick’ems…

It’s not like anyone had a really terrible week in what was probably the most challenging week of picks thus far. Week 6 picks, I’d like for you to meet week 7 picks.

Mom shrugged off this week’s picks like it was nothing and still nailed 42 points! I can picture her shouting to the rest of us, "Are you not entertained?” For those of you that don’t know, that’s a reference from the movie Gladiator after the main character cuts through several gladiators while barely breaking a sweat. She has nailed four weeks of 40 plus points!!! That’s insane.

Meanwhile, Marc still has a Kung Fu grip on 2nd place and it doesn’t appear to be loosening any time soon.

It’s pretty obvious that, at this point Mike is hanging on to third place by a single thread. Sean, Megan, Cindie, Stemple, and I are already trying to be the first ones to find scissors to make that cut.

Kim had a fantastic week after ripping off 7 straight wins and appeared to be on a roll. She lost two of the last three games but still snagged 41 points.

Cindie keeps hanging around in the middle of the pile waiting to make her move north. But at the rate she’s going, by the time she actually makes her move, the contest will have ended.

Sean is acting like he wants to win some money or something by getting a wee bit aggressive on his picks. He’s now tied for 4th place.

Most points for the week: After her shatty dismal performance the prior week, Megan ripped off 51 points this week and has moved all the way up to 5th place. Megan’s line on the graph is just absurd.

Least Points for the week: Noah and his picks performed less than admirably after hitting on only 28 points.

Best pick of the week: How about Megan, Sean, Jacob, and Mom placing their points on Utah whacking USC. Those that picked USC lost out on some big points.

Worst pick of the week: Stemple and Sean putting high points on Texas beating Oklahoma. The rest of us know the rule: Never go high on Texas in a toss-up game because chances are, you’ll get burned every time.

Who’s panicking after week 6? Adam’s probably panicking this week after sitting two spots above Noah and Jacob. As he tries to stay afloat in the open sea, his half-filled life raft is losing more air and the sharks are beginning to circle.

Here’s how we rank heading into Week 7:

1.       Mom – 231 points

2.       Marc – 221 points

3.       Mike – 206 points

4.       David – 205 points

4.       Sean – 205 points

5.       Megan – 202 points

6.       Cindie – 201 points

7.       Stemple -200 points

8.       Kim – 198 points

9.   Wendi – 191 points

9.   Samuel – 191 points

10.   Adam – 190 points

11.   Noah – 187 points

12.   Jacob – 180 points

A total of 51 points separate the top from bottom.

Good luck in week 7!
