‘The Previous Play is Under Review’ is the rebranded weekly review that recaps the prior week of college football and also recaps how each of us fared with the weekly picks in a comically dark manner.

Fall camp is underway at each university which signals the return of college football. This is the time where hopes and dreams of winning conference championships, national championships, or even pick’ems are born. This is the part of the season where every team, player, fan, and even pick’ems participants believe they have a shot at winning it all. That is of course, until the games begin.

After week 1, half of the college football teams will have one loss. With that loss, championship aspirations also fade. After week 1, it’s likely some of us will have a disappointing week in picks which may be difficult to overcome. At least initially. And if you are able to find success early on? Beware of the landmines. Mom had two consecutive perfect weeks which vaulted her to 1st place early on which she held for four straight weeks. After a few weeks of dishing out smack talk, Mom’s Cinderella story abruptly ended which sent her plummeting in the rankings in week 6. She would never recover and finished 5th overall.

Noah was in 1st place as week 1 ended, but a dismal showing the rest of the way sent him tumbling to the bottom where Sam was waiting for him. And Poor Sam. It didn’t really matter if he could rattle off the mascot for every college football team. The kid crawled into the fetal position as the games started and never could get out of last place the entire 2020 Pick’ems season. Marc’s probably chuckling at the expense of Sam but fared no better. In fact, Marc never finished higher than 8th place each week and his lifeless picks reflected it.

Like college football, Pick’ems is a grind…okay, maybe that’s a slight bit of an exaggeration. But teams such as Florida State, Michigan, and Texas who are the blue bloods of college football have for now taken a step back for various reasons. They were used to winning. And that’s exactly where Adam is right now. Can he rebound? We’ll see. Yeah, Megan was a bit of a one hit wonder and has a trophy to prove it, but the rest of her time was flat out garbage.

The great thing about college football is that you’ll always have those middle of the road teams such as Texas Tech, Iowa, Mississippi, North Carolina State, etc. They may upset a good team, or maybe even flirt at the top of their standings for a brief time, but you know they’re not consistent enough each week to actually REALLY do something. Such is the life for Mike, Teddy, Kim, and Mom. When the competition heats up and the pressure cranks up a notch, they’ll fold faster than a fold up chair.

Then of course, you have the power house programs of college football. Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson have dominated college football as of late. The same could be said about David, Cindie, and Wendi who have been recently dominating Pick’ems and finishing in the top 3. It would be considered an upset if one of them fell out of the top 3 of the final standings and not win any money.

However, can a newcomer in Sean make a run at some cash in the first year? We’ve seen new participants come and go but none were able to sniff the top 3 in the end. But like college football, anything can happen on Saturdays. So let’s just sit back, make some picks, root for your favorite team, and have some fun! College football is finally here!
