Championships are won in November

Written by David

The spotlight was on the Big 10 this weekend as four ranked teams went at it. Michigan State stunned Michigan 37-33 as Sparty scored 15 fourth quarter points to finish their comeback bid. Michigan State’s running back Kenneth Walker III had a game for the ages rushing for 197 yards on 23 carries with five touchdowns. However, many Wolverine fans are questioning Jim Harbaugh after putting in a back-up quarterback with the game on the line who eventually fumbled a second snap while attempting to hand it off. The latter was recovered by the Spartans in a critical moment of the game. Wendi still hasn’t recovered from the game and had to take Monday off from work.

Penn State put up a nice fight before succumbing to Ohio State 33-24. The Buckeyes were just too strong in the 4th quarter and a high stakes game now looms with Michigan State in three weeks for control of the Big Ten East.

You might have missed it, but 9th ranked Iowa got ripped to shreds by Wisconsin 27-7. This is the second straight week that Iowa has dropped a game. Don’t be surprised if somehow Wisconsin finds a way into the B1G championship game as the west representative.

Georgia continues to drop kick everyone in their path to get into the playoff. Their victim this week were the Florida Gators. That Florida offense looked really bad. Like… REALLY bad.

Auburn just somehow keeps on winning. This past Saturday, they beat Ole Miss 31-20 in yet another game where Lane Kiffin gambled on 4th down way too often. And now, Auburn has a showdown in College Station this week against Texas A&M which is going to be huge!

SMU lost their first game of the season to Houston in a 44-37 thriller.

Is it time to start taking Wake Forest serious who’s now ranked in the top 10? As of now, no other ACC team is ranked in the top 25 which is downright embarrassing. In fact, I would bet money that at least six SEC teams, three BIG 12 teams, and three B1G teams would utterly dismember the Demon Deacons.

The Pac-12 continues to be a hot mess. Arizona State lost to Washington State 34-21 after committing five turnovers. Oh, and a hapless California team shocked Oregon State 39-25. Poor Sean and his borderline weird PAC-12 fandom had to take out that loss in GroupMe. Needless to say, it was… well….awkward at best.

And some people STILL haven’t learned their lesson about picking Texas. The Longhorns dropped another game where they were leading by double digits! Who does Texas play this week? Oh Iowa State you say? It’ll be on the picks then. Of course, this will probably be the week Texas does win.

On to the picks…

And Mom rips off yet ANOTHER 40 plus point week. She has nailed seven weeks of 40 plus points out of nine weeks. That’s just insane…and border line unfair! They say championships are won in November, but Mom appears to have it locked up by October.

Marc continues his drift further from Mom. He’s the only one that could afford a lousy 27 point week because nobody was even in range to threaten his second place spot. However, another bad week could put a few others in range of him.

Right when Stemple believed he had a shot at making a run at 3rd place this week…BAM! He face plants. His 29 point week slipped him from 5th place to 6th. Luckily for him, Megan who’s now holding on to third place, also had a 29 point week.

Don’t look now, but Kim has quietly moved into 4th place and moved within one point from Megan. It’s usually about now where she steps on the proverbial landmine in which she never recovers from.

Cindie had a very sneaky good 37 point week which was second best! Instead up moving up from 7th place, she managed to move down one spot which makes for a good chuckle.

Meanwhile, both Noah and Jacob continue to play hot potato using hand grenades. They’re both having an awful year.

Most Points for the week: Mom. Again. This time, 41 points.

Least Points for the week: Noah just can’t catch a break only snagging 26 points. He’s sitting in 13th place and STILL thinks he has a chance to win the entire thing. Bless his heart.

Best Pick of the week: Both Sean and Noah oddly picking Washington State to upset Arizona State paid off huge as the majority of us lost out on some big juicy points.

Worst Pick of the week: Either Marc was clearly swinging for the fence or he hadn’t really seen Penn State play as he stuck 9 points on them to beat Ohio State. That didn’t go well. Like at all.

Who’s panicking after week 9? Mike’s not doing himself any favors by moving further south from 8th to 11th place. With about six more weeks in play left, third place is looking more and more distanced.

Here’s how we rank heading into week 10:

1. Mom– 364 points

2. Marc – 337 points

3. Megan – 310 points

4. Kim - 309 points

5. Sean – 308 points

6. Stemple – 303 points

7. Adam – 299 points

8. Cindie– 292 points

9. Samuel – 286 points

10. David – 285 points

11. Mike - 282 points

12. Wendi - 278 points

13. Noah - 267 points

14. Jacob - 252 points

Good luck this week!
