Another One Bites the Dust

Written by Wendi

Well, the way things are going, there may be several one loss teams in the playoffs this year.  Could a two loss team get in for the first time?  What happens if Alabama loses to Auburn?  What happens if Bama beats Georgia in the SEC conference championship game?  So many What-ifs.

The day started with Air Force and Army.  After going to the locker room at half scoreless for both teams, they made the second half adjustments and finally put some points on the board.  Army was able to hold back the Falcons in overtime and won it 21-14.  David, you are a traitor by picking the Chair Force.  That lost you 5 points.

Wake Forest and North Carolina battled in a shootout with a combined 1161 yards of offense.  Yikes!  Defense anyone?  UNC was able to get the win and upset the undefeated Demon Deacons.  We can go ahead and discount the thought of the ACC making the playoffs.   Doubt Wake Forest stood a chance anyways.

Texas A&M held Auburn to only 3 points and won 20-3.  Let’s just say, "There’s the Bo Nix we all know”.  After playing some of his best football in the recent weeks, Bo Nix could not get it done on the road.  Maybe it was the 12th man on the field that got to him.  I mean after all, there were almost 110,000 fans in attendance.  Mississippi State and Arkansas at least gave us more of an entertaining game.  In a thriller, it all came down to a last second field goal attempt for Mississippi State to tie for overtime.  With the score being 31-28, Mississippi State was well within field goal range.  They lined up for the 40 yard field goal and it was NO GOOD as time expired.  But you are right Coach Pittman, it was not the Super Bowl you won.

In what should have been an overwhelmingly win over LSU, Bama was just Bama.  The game would have looked a whole lot different if Coach O would have kicked those field goals and could have potentially tied the game.  But he decided to go on 4th down on several occasions and couldn’t convert.  Kentucky and Tennessee gave us a good game fighting to the end.  Just when you think Kentucky would pull it out, Tennessee came storming back.  Just when you think Tennessee has sealed the game, Kentucky would come marching down the field.  It finally ended with a Tennessee win 45-42.

Troy almost blew a big lead but outlasted South Alabama 31-24.  Marshall went on to beat FAU 28-13.  I bet FAU misses the Lane Train.  Texas is back.  Back to losing.  Iowa State dominated Texas 30-7.  Iowa State has beat Texas 3 straight years.  I’m wondering how long they want to keep Sarkisian as their coach.  I know this is his first year but they don’t tend to keep coaches there very long without winning.

In a slow start for Oregon, they finally were able to get past Washington 26-16 in what should have been a runaway.  Washington fired their offense coordinator after the loss and their head coach is being investigated for possibly striking a linebacker.  I guess a game you are losing during the rain is a recipe for bad things to happen.

FUN FACTThere are now only 4 undefeated teams….

On To pick’ems…

Yep, mom FINALLY had a bad week.  As well as Marc.  That catapulted Megan just 3 points to second place by only missing out on one point for the week.  Can she keep the momentum going?  History says NO.  But this has been a year like no other.  The usual contenders find themselves toward the bottom.  It took a while.  Maybe longer than expected but all 3 kids finally are at the bottom together.  That folks is called the kids’ table.

PRETENDERS OF THE WEEK: So Sean, how does it feel that Megan and Jacob beat you this week?  Is it because Oregon State lost to Colorado?  You can take your anger out on Megan but leave the kid out of it.  Marc continued to struggle this week alongside mom.  I think mom just felt sorry for us and wanted us to catch up.  News flash mom, you are still too far ahead.  Please have another bad week or two.  But surprise for you, Emma will get all your winnings.  It was voted on.  So you can quit trying now.  Stemple took a beating and is now in 7th place.  Sam lost out on his 9 and 8 points and it cost him dearly.  Maybe instead of putting crappy picks out for us David, maybe you need to teach Noah more about football and his picks.

CONTENDERS OF THE WEEK:  After nailing her second "over 50” week, Megan is just a few clicks south of Marc and inching closer to first.  I was finally able to get at least 40 points for the first time this year.  As well as Mike.  Jacob had a good week and was able to crawl out of the bottom.  Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for him.  Can he pass Samuel this weekend?  Adam was able to snag 40 points as well.  After David lost his first 2 games, he was able to win out the rest of the games to finish 3rd for the day.

Most points for the week:  How in the heck did Megan nail 54 out of 55 points?  Megan is in prime position to ease the gap from 1st.  Let’s see if she can keep it going.

Least points for the week:  I don’t know if I should feel sorry for Noah or happy for Jacob?  With Noah only getting 24 points, that brought him down to last place and pulled Jacob out of the gutter.

Best pick of the week:  Megan, Jacob, Adam, and Mike not drinking the Wake Forest Kool-Aid.  They went UNC and it paid off.

Worst pick of the week:  Who in the hell keeps picking Texas and going high? You know, it took me a while to figure it out but come on Adam, Mike, and Sean.  I understand maybe going low but 7 or 8 points on Texas is inexcusable.  It’s like suicide. Please join everyone else on the "never pick Texas” side.  It’s more rewarding.  I promise.
