What Are You Thankful for?

Written by Wendi

With Thanksgiving swiftly approaching next week, It’s that time of year to reflect on your life and what and who you are most thankful for.

Am I thankful that Michigan found a way to beat Penn State on the road?  Of course I am.  But we still have the big bad Buckeyes next weekend and must get past Maryland this Saturday.  Ohio State plays Michigan State this weekend and depending on that outcome, will determine a lot going into next week.  If Ohio State beats Michigan State and somehow, someway Michigan beats Ohio State, Michigan is off to Indianapolis.  Will it happen?  Probably not.  But I would be greatly thankful.

Baylor was able to knock off undefeated Oklahoma in a shocking upset which ended with fans storming the field with a few seconds left on the timeclock.  How do you get everyone off the field to finish the game by kneeling the last play?  The answer is you don’t.  With Baylor calling a timeout with 3 seconds left, and after many minutes trying to get the fans off the field and getting the Oklahoma players back out from the locker room, Baylor lines up to kick a field goal to tack on 3 extra points to make the final 27-14.  And that had Lincoln Riley fuming.  Was it the right call for Baylor?  Their offense was no match for Baylor’s defense.  I don’t know about you but it sure feels weird mentioning Big 12 teams and defense all in the same sentence.  But to be honest, Oklahoma should have been tagged a long time ago.  The Big 12 just got more interesting.

SMU was able to steamroll UCF 55-28.  UAB outlasted Marshall 21-14 which a lot of us had some pretty big points on Marshall we lost out on.  And Adam may or may not be thankful that David put FSU on the picks and FSU actually won.  It may have cost Adam a pair of white underwear but they were able to get the win 31-28.  They are still not bowl eligible but the way Florida is playing, the Noles may beat them as well next weekend.  FYI David, Adam says not to put them on the picks again.  He doesn’t want to make that gamble again.

<David’s Edit – The Florida / Florida State game WILL be on the picks>

After being down 13-10 at the half, Iowa was able to bounce back and get the win over Minnesota 27-22.  Honestly, the only thing I like about Iowa is that thing they do after the 1st quarter.  If you don’t know look it up.  Makes me want to cry every time.  After South Carolina beat the breaks off of Florida last week, they were unable to keep the momentum going at Missouri.  Missouri won 31-28.  So close South Carolina, so close.

With game day being in Oxford, everyone got on board the Lane Train.  I think after failing on so many 4th downs in the past few weeks, Ole Miss found a little bit of sense and took points when they could by only going for it on 4th three times.  They got it only once.   After going up 15-0 at the half, Ole Miss held A&M off long enough to win 29-19.  It took overtime for Arkansas and LSU to decide the game.  LSU threw a pick on their overtime possession which in turn, Arkansas only needed the field goal for the win and got it.  Maybe next year LSU.

Wake Forest and NC State put on quite the show in a shootout.  With a total of six turnovers (three for each), they still somehow managed to combine for a total of 888 offensive yards.  With Wake Forest getting the win 45-42.  Another loss for Wake Forest could have shaken things up a bit in the ACC.

ICYMI:  Texas lost to a 1- win Kansas in overtime and Bo Nix (Auburn) is out the last 2 games of the regular season.

FUN FACT:  Cincinnati, Georgia and UTSA are the only undefeated teams left.

On To pick’ems…

Just two weeks ago, Mom had a 27 point lead over second place.  This week, just 15 points.  It’s happening folks.  She is starting to fall apart and crumble.  After having a couple of rough weeks, Mom is probably thankful she had that big lead so she can allow herself those weeks where she makes mistakes. Can she hang on just a few more weeks?

Now is the time to pull up your big boy undies and big girl panties and start making wise picks to stay ahead and compete for the top three spots for a chance at some prize money.  I know at least half of us are not even in the mix but hey, anything can happen, right?  After all, this is College Football and strange things have been happening all season long already.

Who is thankful this week (30+):  Noah is thankful he is not in last place anymore.  He was able to put Jacob back in his rightful place at the bottom.  But don’t get too excited Noah, you’re only beating Jacob by six points.  Even though Sam lost out on his 9 and 10 points, he was able to capitalize off of everyone else’s mistakes and finished 2nd for the week with 32 points.  In doing so he now is tied with me in 9th place and is beating Mike and David.

Who is not thankful this week: (singing to myself) David won two games, David won two games, David won two games.  Sorry, for a minute I got ahead of myself.  Let’s just call it what it is.  A bad dream for the rest of us.  Mom, Megan, and David all finished in the teens and the rest of us just tried to stay afloat and not take in anymore water.  We are not thankful for all of the upsets and we are definitely not thankful for these shatty picks David keep throwing out there.  But what we can all agree on (except Mom) is that Mom had her own shatty week and the gap is closing from 1st.  Her go to "guy” for picks probably went on vacation and mom was not able to get in touch with him.  Yep, that is my story and I am sticking with it.

Most points for the week:  Noah got the high of 38 points in a week and it almost seemed impossible.

Least points for the week:  Back to David...HAHAHAHAHAHA 15 points….Ok, I’m better, I promise.

Best pick of the week:  Sam and Sean picking UAB cost the rest of us some pretty big points.

Worst pick of the week:  Everyone going high on Oklahoma.  We all knew the risk and they have struggled all year but we still did it.

Here are the rankings:

1. Mom -410 points

2. Marc – 395 points

3. Megan - 381 points

4. Sean - 372 points

5. Kim - 368 points

6. Adam - 361 points

7. Cindy - 358 points

8. Stemple - 357 points

9. Wendi - 348 points

9. Samuel - 348 points

10. Mike - 347 points

11. David - 344 points

12. Noah - 329 points

13. Jacob - 323 points

There is an 87 point difference from first to last.   Good luck this week!
