Rivalry Weekend Woes

Written by David

The Michigan Wolverines finally got the monkey off their back by beating Ohio State 42-27 in Ann Arbor. The Wolverine Offense racked up 297 yards on the ground and the defense pressured Buckeye’s quarterback CJ Stroud all game and sacked him four times. Michigan will face Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game. A win over Iowa will send the Wolverines into the College Football Playoff. Michigan’s probably drafting up a new contract for Jim Harbaugh as we speak.

The Dan Mullen-less Gators were able to right the ship and get a win over rival Florida State 24-21 in a very chippy affair. The Gators have now won three straight. After scoring late in the 4th quarter, Florida State’s kicker attempted an onside kick and whiffed badly. Like, he totally missed it. Florida took over and ran out the clock.

As the Iron Bowl ended, you could almost see the souls leaving from all the Auburn fans in the stadium. The Tide trailed 10-0 in the 4th quarter and came back to tie the game and force overtime in the most dramatic way possible. Alabama won the game 24-22 in the fourth overtime and they’ll face Georgia in the SEC Championship game next week.

Bedlam did not disappoint. Oklahoma was knocked out of the College Football playoff by rival Oklahoma State 37-33 in a back and forth affair. The Cowboys ripped off 13 fourth quarter points and they’re off to the Big 12 Championship game in a rematch against Baylor. And now Lincoln Riley is off to USC in a stunning move.

In the Civil War, Oregon held off Oregon State 38-29. The Beavers attempted to rally by scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter. However, Oregon tacked on two scores of its own in the fourth to secure the win. Oregon is off to the Pac 12 Championship game in a rematch against Utah.

Whoa, I didn’t see Wisconsin wetting the bed against Minnesota which knocked the Badgers out of the Big Ten Championship game. And Iowa thanks you for it.

It almost doesn’t sound right that Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Clemson will not be in their respective championship games this weekend. It’s kind of refreshing though.

On to the picks…

It looks like there is going to be a little drama for all three tops spots as we enter the final week.

In the ultimate choke job, Mom has lost her grip on first place and is having to share it with Marc for the time being. Barring a major let down from those two, they should be able to lock up first and second place. But there’s a huge difference in payout that first place will win compared to the second place winner.

However, third place is going to be close too. Cindie, Megan, Kim, Adam, Sean, and even Stemple all have a shot at winning a little bit of money. Third place will be fun to watch.

Megan essentially had third place locked up until she whiffed as bad as the Florida State kicker. After only snagging a dismal 18 points this week, she’s in a major fight for third place.

The only drama at the bottom is which of the kids is going to finish in last place?

Mike, Wendi, and I are on the outside looking in as we watch everyone else above us board the lifeboats.

Most Points for the week: After some really bad weeks…and some that were down right embarrassing, Noah FINALLY had a week where he snagged the most points with 40. He’s still second from the bottom though.

Least Points for the week: Megan and her lowly 18 points was sad enough to let Sean out of his cage who began posting immediately on GroupMe frantically rooting for an Auburn win. As soon as Sean started posting, Alabama began its’ improbable comeback.

Best Pick of the week: Wendi and her Michigan pick finally paid off over Ohio State while the rest of us lost out on some BIG points. So how did Wendi follow that up? By losing the last five games and missing out on 25 points.

Worst Pick of the week: The rest of us that went high on Ohio State. Nobody saw that coming. Not even Michigan fans.

Here’s how we rank heading into the final week:

1. Mom– 475 points

1. Marc – 475 points

2. Cindie – 443 points

3. Megan - 442 points

3. Kim – 442 points

4. Adam – 441 points

5. Sean – 438 points

6. Stemple – 433 points

7. David– 425 points

8. Wendi – 423 points

9. Mike - 418 points

10. Samuel - 411 points

11. Noah - 404 points

12. Jacob - 395 points

1st place winner gets $126.00

2nd place winner gets $63.00

3rd place winner gets $21.00

(If there are ties for any of those spots, the winnings will be split accordingly)

Good luck this week!
