Week 3 Review

Written by Wendi

Another riveting Saturday is down in the books.  What a barnburner of a game between Syracuse and Purdue.  In a game that was 9-3 at the half, they scored a combined 42 points in the 4th quarter, all of which were touchdowns.  Purdue should have won the game but with costly penalties, it was able to keep Syracuse rolling to make that final TD to win.  For the first game of the day, it sure was a pretty stressful one.  I believe I aged a month watching it.

Virginia and Old Dominion battled it out in a low scoring game, which took a 26-yard field goal as time expired to put the Cavaliers on top 16-14.  After an upset over Virginia Tech earlier this season, the Monarchs were hoping to get another upset over an in-state rival.  Notre Dame finally got their first win of the season over Cal.  The Fighting Irish seemed to improve on offense as the game progressed but questions still remain on offense.

Oregon put the beatdown on 12th ranked BYU 41-20.  With the way Auburn was playing on Saturday, maybe Bo Nix should have transferred back to Auburn.  No?  Well, he looked very impressive.  But we ALL KNOW that BO has bad days.  Speaking of Auburn, who saw Penn State putting the beatdown on Auburn?  Auburn did not look good at all on offense.  Four turnovers will cost you the game.  Penn State was able to put up 477 yards against a defense that is usually pretty good.

Speaking of surprises, Kansas has the average for most points per game.  Yeah you could say they haven’t played anyone but for a team that has not had a winning record since 2008 and won ZERO games just 2 years ago, that is pretty impressive.  Kansas is looking like the team it once was in its glory days.  Ok maybe not but still, they are 3-0 to start and I think they can give Oklahoma a run for their money this year.  They went on to beat Houston 48-30 on Saturday.  It was so bad you had 2 receivers on Houston fighting each other.  Dana Holgorsen couldn’t be prouder.

LSU was able to outlast Mississippi State in Death Valley.  After trailing the Tigers pulled away by outscoring State 21-0 in the 4th quarter.  Mississippi State had plenty of chances to put the game away but with a TD negated by a holding penalty, muffed punt, an INT and a ton of dropped passes, they just hurt themselves.  I thought the Texas Tech and NC State would have been closer than it actually was.  This was a game I thought would come down to the wire.  NC State was dominate on defense and forced multiple turnovers.  Texas Tech faces Texas next week and I hope the Red Raiders stomp all over them.  Texas isn’t back, they are "whack”.

Washington simply demolished 11th ranked Michigan State in Seattle.  I know they were out some starters but at least try a little bit harder.  Washington was able to get to a 22-0 lead before State’s offense finally was able to score a TD with just a minute and a half left to halftime.  I am sure we can all agree that they were not deserving of the 11th ranking.  On to the Primetime game between Miami and Texas A&M.  It wasn’t that Texas A&M played great in their win.  In fact, the Hurricanes out gained them in total yardage, first downs as well as time of possession.  Miami just could not get into the end zone AT ALL and had to settle for field goals.  They had three but attempted five.  One was blocked and the other was missed.  The Aggies will pair up against Arkansas this weekend so I am sure that will be on the picks.

DUMB PLAY OF THE WEEK:  Mike trying to blame poor little sweet Emma on greening all of the scores.  It didn’t show on my end but thanks to Cindy for catching that on screen shot.  At least wait until she starts talking so she can defend her.  Your word against hers.  I got Emma’s back.

On to the Pick’ems….

Well, that went south for a few of you.  If you scored 30 or more, I would consider that a great week after those hellacious picks David thought we would enjoy.  If you scored under 30 like David, Mike and Stemple, you will have a lot of catching up to do from here on out…Or just wait it out until Me, Adam and Megan fall which I am sure is bound to happen sooner or later.  For now, I am content with 2nd place. Marc seems intent on staying shy of the top spots for now and is tied with Cindy and David for 4th.  When will he make his move?

I think Mike took the hardest hit from 1st to 6th place with his abysmal 24 points for the week. We all knew he couldn’t handle being on top.   After Mom gained three spots up last week, she tumbled down four spots.  What is that saying?  Take one step forward, you take 2 steps back?  At least she can keep the kids at the kiddie table occupied.

With Megan’s fantastic week, she shot out of a cannon from 8th to 3rd place.  Can she keep the momentum going after this?  Did Sean put her in the doghouse for not sharing picks?  Sean, you should have heard her say, "Go Oregon”.  I have the proof.  LOL

Do you hear that sound?  Me neither.  Stemple has gotten quiet after stating that he needed to take some more of the Hall money.  After an impressive 1st week, he has gone down faster than the Titanic.

Adam was quick to put on his crown for taking the top spot this week, albeit only in a GIF.  The good news is, you made it to first.  The bad news is, you only have one place to go and that is DOWN.  But I know Adam. He is doing his impressions of "Shake and Bake” while shouting "If you’re not first, you’re last Ricky Bobby”.

And as usual the two kids have rightfully found their place at the bottom and will most likely stay there the rest of the season.  Oh, and did I mention that David is 11 points from 1st?

Most points for the week:  Megan somehow nailed 44 points with only losing 2 games.   I am sure her phone will be blowing up this week asking for advice.

Least points for the week:  Not only is Sam grounded but he only scored 14 points with three wins.  Poor little guy just can’t catch a break.

Best pick of the week:  Megan and Stemple picking Washington over Michigan State.  Stemple went big but it was still not enough to help his point totals.

Worst pick of the week:  I know Mike wants his 5 points back on Texas Tech.  Sorry Mike, no refunds or takebacks.

Here are the rankings:

1.Adam -121 points

2.Wendi - 115 points

3.Megan - 112 points

4.David - 110 points (Of Course David’s name is at the top of a tie….rigged)

4.Cindie - 110 points

4.Marc -110 points

5.Stemple - 108 points

6.Mike - 106 points

7.Sean - 103 points
