Alriiiight, Alriiiiight, Alriiiiight!

After seeing Nebraska play the last couple of years and in week 1, was it really a surprise that Colorado beat them 36-14?  No, it was not.  Now, do not get me wrong, they do have talent on the team but until Colorado plays someone of caliber, you cannot convince me that are THAT great.  They have a rough schedule coming up starting with USC and Oregon back-to-back in a couple of weeks.

There were a multiple weather delays along the Atlantic coast from Florida to New England.  After more than a five-hour weather delay, Purdue and Virginia Tech were tied at 17 at the half.  It seems as if the offense on both teams sputtered at times.  Ultimately, Purdue won 24-17 by scoring a touchdown in the 4th quarter.

Without getting too political, Former President Trump attended the Iowa vs. Iowa State game.  As an Iowa State fan, you could say he brought back luck.  As an Iowa fan, he brought good luck.  But for arguments sake, for five of us, he brought bad luck for the picks.  Iowa State had issues on offense and could not keep drives going.  The Cyclones had dominated on time of possession, total yardage and had more first downs.  After scoring ten unanswered points in the fourth quarter, the Cyclones went on to lose 20-13.

On paper, the Texas A&M vs, Miami game looked to be a good game and it was up until the end of the third quarter with Miami leading by only five points.  However, in Jimbo Fisher fashion, the Aggies just fell apart and could not stop Miami.  The Aggies had three turnovers and lost 48-33 and are already calling for Jimbo to be fired.  I know most of you are SEC fans but just because it is an SEC team, it is not an automatic win.  It is pretty sad when Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are leading in the SEC West.

It was all Cincinnati going into the fourth quarter against Pittsburgh.  The Bearcats led 27-7 at the end of the third.  However, Pittsburgh was not going down without a fight.  They were able to score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to get within 6-points but there just was not enough time on the clock left for another drive.  Instead of shortening the games with the new time clock rules, they should have extended the games. Yeah, that sounds good.

Was I shocked to see Texas beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa?  Ehhh…I heard that instead of being at practice last week, Nick Saban was picking out interior decorations for his $17.5 million dollar Florida home he just purchased.  Ok, so maybe I’m starting a rumor but Bama just couldn’t get out of their own way.  It’s not like Texas is "BACK” or that they looked great.  As Mike said, Bama was not mistake free.  Texas got the win by double digits 34-24.  For shame Saban, for shame.  Now we have to hear ALL about Texas is back until they aren’t.

The Oregon Ducks got quite the scare in Lubbock against the Red Raiders.  With Texas Tech coming off a loss at Wyoming last week, surely Oregon would have steamrolled them after putting up over 80 points the week prior.  It could have been Bo Nix just being Bo Nix.  However, Oregon escaped a huge upset by squeaking by 38-30.

Surely with a new coach in Luke Fickell, being ranked nineteenth in the country, that would count for something right?  With three turnovers for the Badgers, it proved too costly to overcome a 24-9 Washington State lead at the half.  However, Wisconsin was able to score 14 points in the third quarter but fell flat in the fourth quarter to lose 31-22.  Better luck next week Badgers.

It took overtime for the Mississippi Bulldogs to put away a feisty Arizona team that was eager to win.  Arizona dominated on all phases of the game except those pesky little turnovers.  Arizona had FIVE costly turnovers and could have actually won.  But as I always say, "turnovers will lose a game.”  The Bulldogs won 31-24.

FUN FACT:  NO PAUL FINEBAUM, TEXAS IS NOT BACK!!!  JUST STOP!!!

On to the Pick’ems…

Where do I even begin.  This week was brutal.  There was a lot of red splattered across the weekly scoreboard.  We all knew Noah couldn’t hold the lead.  At one point he lost six games in a row.  Luckily, he was able to score some of his bigger points later in the evening.  He would have been toast if Oregon and Mississippi State couldn’t pull off the win.  That would have meant he would finished with a total of ten points. But the other kid Sam, he had a great day.  First a touchdown at his football game and then taking the top spot for the week and has a seven-point lead overall.  Lucky!!

Adam came into town over the weekend to watch Sam’s football game.  On Friday we were all sitting around talking about the picks and me and Sam were like, "you aren’t getting your picks this week”.  Adam did not believe us.  Where is Adam now?  Didn’t I mention last week about him not being able to stay in second?

After having a bad week one, Stemple had a good rebound week and finished second for the week.  Good job Stemple.  We both know it won’t last.  Enjoy it while you can.  David finished third for the week and took over the second spot overall.  I think me and Mike are content in finishing in the top five this week as it seemed like all hell broke loose on the picks.

Sean and Megan are sitting in the bottom three overall just ahead of Marc.  Maybe it was the COVID in their house that had them disoriented while making their picks?  Just maybe.  This weekend I should be able to answer that.

Hey Marc, make sure you double check your picks before submitting.  But it happens, I have done it once or twice and I am sure other people have.  I know your situation is different so I will let it slide this week.  You’re welcome.  But you have a lot of catching up to do.

Mom, you actually only lost three games.  You would have been stellar but those three games had a total of 25 points.  You lost out on your 10, 8 and 7.  Point placement is where you need to work on this week.

And I have saved the best for last...

Cindy, when we say you need to take risks, we weren’t saying "put 10 on Bama” kind of risk.  Baby steps Cindy, baby steps.  The risk would have been going one on Texas.  Just kidding.

Most points for the week:  In a Foghorn Leghorn voice "Boy, I said booyy, what’s the big idea here?”  How is it that two weeks in a row, the kids are taking the top spot?  In a not so pretty week, Sam got an impressive 41 points.  He already bought some football gloves with his money since he is scoring touchdowns in his football games.  As Sam would say, "that is my first career touchdown.”  Career?  You are only 10 Sam.

Least points for the week:  Just when you thought Marc or Noah would fall in this category after how their week started, **BAM**, here comes Megan.  With only winning four games, Megan had 24 points to show at the end of the day.

Best pick of the week:   With Myself and Mike picking Miami, that meant a lot of folks losing some juicy points on Texas A&M.  I hope that means you are not still mad at me Mike.

Worst pick of the week:  I would have put Marc here by going 9 on Nebraska but since I heard it was an actual mistake, I will throw Adam under the bus.  Adam, there are no moral victories here.  I know it was only one point you put on Nebraska because you are not a "Coach Prime” fan but come on man.  You and I both know Nebraska was not going to win that game.

Here are the rankings:

1 .Sam - 89 points

2. David - 82 points

3. Wendi - 80 points

4. Noah - 78 points

5. Evelyn - 77 points

6. Adam - 75 points

7. Mike - 73 points

7. Stemple - 73 points

8. Cindy - 72 points

9. Sean - 71 points

10. Megan - 68 points

11. Marc - 62 points

Good luck this week!  There is a 27-point difference from first place to last place.
