"Another Week Down"

Written by Wendi

Well, the first weekend of November was not short of close games.  In what looked to be an easy win for Texas at home going up quickly to 17-7 at the half.  But you can’t count out those Wildcats.  They came storming back to tie at it 30 by the end of the third quarter.  It would take overtime and a 4th down attempt that failed from Kansas State instead of a field goal to tie to take it into a second overtime for Texas to win 33-30.  Bad decision or go for the win?

Another nail biter in Oxford, MS as the Rebels hosted the Aggies.  Some may say this was Sean’s ticket to fame.  After all, he was on national TV.  The Aggies took the lead late in the fourth quarter and Ole Miss was able to score a TD to retake the lead with under three minutes left in the game.  The Ole Miss defense was able to keep Texas A&M from finishing the drive and won 38-35.

What do Georgia Tech & Virginia have in common?  They both upset North Carolina.  It was pretty much all Georgia Tech from start to finish.  Georgia Tech rolled 45-17.  Those Missouri Tigers sure kept Georgia within arm’s reach.  We all knew Georgia was going to win but this was their first true test playing a top 12 team.  It was low scoring in the first half with the score tied at 10.  But Georgia was able to get some more points on the board in the second half to win 30-21.  Guess they don’t need Brock Bowers after all.

The last conference game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State was nothing short of a thriller and it wasn’t even a shootout.  What is that saying I always say…”turnovers will lose a game”.  Oklahoma had three costly ones.  I think without those, the Sooners should have easily won that game.  But here we are.  State won 27-24 and stormed the field.  This gives the Sooners their second loss and no shot at the playoffs.  The Big 12 is still up for grabs but Texas is sitting at the top with Oklahoma State.

In the Sunbelt, Old Dominion held the lead until the fourth quarter.  Coastal Carolina outscored the Monarchs 15-3 in the fourth quarter to win 28-24.  Kansas traveled to Ames to take on Iowa State.  Kansas started with the lead and never lost it.  The Jayhawks won 28-21.  Is it me or does the Big 12 look like they have a defense?  Not too many shootouts these days.

Michael Penix Jr & Co. traveled to Lose Angeles to face the Heisman winner and his Trojans.  Now this, was a shootout.  Defense optional.  I’m sorry but I don’t see Caleb Williams as the #1 pick in the draft.  He has moments of greatness but then there are times when he is just clumsy with the ball.  It is almost every game this happens when he is scrambling and drops the ball.  Not sure if it is the way he holds it as he runs around in the pocket?  Either way, the Huskies won 52-42 and handed the Trojans their third loss.  Also USC just fired their defensive coordinator.  A little late.

Speaking of third losses.  LSU was handed theirs after traveling to Tuscaloosa.  The Tigers were hoping to beat Bama in back to back years, but Bama’s defense was able to maintain LSU’s high charging offense long enough to win 42-28.  It didn’t help that Jayden Daniels was knocked out of the game and is currently in concussion protocol.

Miami sucks!

FUN FACT:  #15 Notre Dame lost to unranked Clemson.  Unranked Arizona beat #19 UCLA.  Unranked Army handed #25 Air Force their first loss of the season.  GO ARMY!  Florida still sucks.  And drumroll please……………………………Auburn beat Vandy….Auburn is one win from bowl eligibility but face a feisty Arkansas team this week coming off a win at Florida.

On to the Pick’ems…

Well, I had another disastrous week that took me out of second place and dropped me to 5th place.  So this is how it feels huh David?  Megan has made her way into my spot and sits 20-points behind first place.  Maybe Sean needs to leave on the weekends more often.  Seemed to help Megan. Ok so maybe not, but it sounded good.

Marc lost 18 points the first three games and took on three more losses throughout the day.  And with that, Cindy was able to cruise past him and now sits in 9th place.  Movin’ on up Cindy.  Can she get her coveted 8th place back from mom?  She is only two points behind 8th.  Mike gained a spot thanks to me falling.  I did wave Mike, but you didn’t wave back.

Stemple finished second for the week but still sits in last place a mere six points behind Sean.  Hotty Toddy!  I heard a rumor that all the girls in Oxford look the same.  Is that true Sean?

Cyborg Mom had another week and finished third.  But she is still so far behind there just isn’t enough weeks left to really make a comeback. Noah does not want to let anyone get close to him.  If he can stay consistent in his picks, he can maintain the lead and win the big prize in a few weeks.

With only two losses (6 and 8 points), Sam also had a decent week.  Not only did he score a touchdown in his own game on Saturday but they won the 10U Championship Game.  I thought I saw Nick Saban in the stands scouting Sam.  Adam is doing just as bad as me and is currently two points behind Sam overall.  Sad thing is, Sam is one point behind me.  It would be a shame if he beat both his mom and dad.  Don’t laugh David, Noah is beating you too.

Most points for the week:  With 51 points, Megan took the top spot and $30.  Lucky!

Least points for the week:  Marc only netted 28 points and a 40% win rate.

Best pick of the week:   Megan and David picking Oklahoma State over Oklahoma.  This really helped Megan.

Worst pick of the week:  Marc going 6 on Texas A&M is what started his week off terribly.

Here are the rankings:

1.Noah - 380 points

2. Megan -360 points

3. Mike - 357 points

4. David - 355 points

5. Wendi - 351 points

6. Sam - 350 points

7. Adam - 3348 points

8. Evelyn – 346 points

9. Cindy - 319 points

10. Marc - 318 points

11. Sean – 318 points

12. Stemple - 312 points

Good luck this week!  There is a 68-point difference from first to last.
