"Week 11 Firings”

Written by Wendi

If you didn’t want your head coach/coordinators and are unhappy with your team’s performances over the last few years, this is the Monday for you.  Already we are seeing the largest buyout for Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies.  With that much money, I would not even be mad.  I would be laughing all the way to the bank.  Just sit back and retire Jimbo, you deserve it.  Ok, well maybe not.  Other notable firings are Boise State Head Coach, Mississippi State head coach, Penn St. Offensive coordinator. It has already been announced a couple of weeks ago but Iowa’s offensive coordinator will not be returning after this year.  (A little late if you ask me, but it is the head coach’s son).  Wonder who will get fired next Sunday?

Michigan finally played someone of caliber and came out on top 24-15.  Despite the 9-point difference, it wasn’t even close.  Michigan decided to quit throwing passes literally half way in the 2nd quarter and just ran the ball down Penn State’s #1 rushing defense.  Despite all the drama going on and "rat poison” as some would call it, the Wolverines are set to play Ohio State in two weeks which looks like both will go into "THE GAME” undefeated and a chance to make it to Indianapolis to play Iowa and their high-octane offense unless they lose their last two games.  LOL

Speaking of Big Ten, David was nothing more than short on adding those games this week.  Indiana traveled to Illinois and got into a shootout.  Who knew Big Ten could score like that?  Both teams had a total of 1113 yards (Illinois with 662 of them).  This game was settled in overtime with Illinois winning 48-45.  Maryland traveled to Nebraska and it took until the last minute of the game for it to be decided.  Ultimately, the Terrapins got the winning walk off field goal in a low scoring affair 13-10.

In typical Iowa fashion, they held Rutgers offense to ZERO points and somehow managed to score 22 of their own points.  I Wonder if things will be different under a new offensive coordinator next year or will things be the same?  At least they have a defense.  Hawkeyes won 22-0.

I don’t know about you but I thought for sure the Tennessee and Missouri game would be a shootout.  Missouri dominated in all phases of the game and made Tennessee look like a high school team.  Missouri had the ball 2/3rds  of the game (39:56 minutes to be precise).  They kept that Tennessee defense on the field and racked up 530 offensive yards.  Go Tigers!  The Tigers won 36-7.

In a surprising turn, Auburn can actually score points.  And added three passing touchdowns.  Who knew they could throw AND catch.   In a dominating performance on the road, the Hogs got cooked 48-10.  I think we all knew the Lane Train would keep it close early on, but could they maintain for 60 minutes?  The final score tells me "No, they cannot”.  The Bulldogs bruised ol’ Hotty Toddy” 52-17 as Georgia still remains unbeaten and look to challenge Bama in the SEC championship game.  Just remember, Alabama is not the same team that got beat by Texas earlier in the season.  If anyone can beat Georgia, my money is on Bama.  Sorry Stemple.

Utah traveled to Washington hoping to upset the #5 team in the country.  Utah had the lead at the half 28-24 but Washington kept them scoreless in the second half and scored 11 points in the 3rd quarter to win 35-28.  Remember when Washington State was 4-0 to start the season?  They have lost the last six games and now sit at 4-6 with this weekend’s loss to Cal.  The Cougars made it interesting late in the game after scoring two touchdowns late in the 4th quarter.  However, with an interception with under 30 seconds left, the final was 42-39 Cal.

In case you missed the late ACC matchup thriller game between Duke and North Carolina, it had to go into 2OT for it to be settled.  North Carolina was able to kick the tying field goal and sent it to overtime.  Duke failed to make the 2-point conversion in the second overtime and the Tarheels won 47-45.  Did I mention Duke is still without their stating quarterback?

FUN FACT:  Miami still sucks!  Texas was in a tough game in Forth Worth against TCU.  Unranked Texas Tech beat 16th ranked Kansas (1st and 2nd string QB’s out).  Unranked UCF blew the roof off of 15th ranked Oklahoma State 45-3.  Liberty & James Madison are still undefeated.

On to Pick em’s…..

Well, we had our first perfect week with Mike nailing all 55 points.  I’m not jealous, are you?  I think he took a page out of Connor Stallion’s playbook and cheated.  What also helped Mike was Noah not having a good week.  Mike was able to gain 14 points on Noah and now sits nine points behind first place.  The top 3 spots are still up for grabs… unless you are Adam, Mom, Cindy, Sean, Stemple and Marc.  Before you go huffing and puffing because I said your name, hear me out.  There are only three weeks left and Mom and Adam are 32 points behind first place.  Everyone else is further down.  A lot of things would need to go wrong for the ones above you to get back in it.  Stemple is a whopping 63 points from first place.  Let’s just put it this way.  Mike has a better chance at Prom King this year than those that I mentioned getting into the top 3.  Just saying.

With only one loss this week (2 points), David was able to gain on first place as well and cracked the top 3 and sits behind Mike four points away.  Sitting at 21 points back, I have a lot of ground to make up and will need to get wins where I can.  Megan and Sam are right behind me and if Sam passes me, guess what?  He gets grounded and a spankin!  Megan can’t decide if she wants to win or not.  One week she is on fire, the next she is a dumpster fire, the next week she’s on fire, etc.  This week, she was a dumpster fire.

Most points for the week:  Mike nailed all 55 points.  Congrats.  I bet it won’t happen again.

Least points for the week:  Megan knocked herself out of second place into 5th by only getting 39 points.

Best pick of the week:   Mike, David, Cindy, Sam, and Adam picking Auburn over Arkansas.  Some decent points were lost.

Worst pick of the week:  6 on Rutgers Stemple?  It really wasn’t that bad of a pick since Iowa has no offense.  I Just didn’t have a lot to choose from this week.  HEHE!

Here are the rankings:

1.Noah - 421 points

2. Mike -412 points

3. David - 408 points

4. Wendi - 400 points

5. Megan - 399 points

6. Sam - 398 points

7. Evelyn - 389 points

7. Adam - 389 points

8. Cindy - 370 points

9. Sean - 369 points
