"Burn It Allllll Down”
(as Adam would say)
Written by Wendi
What a Saturday! If you were ranked in the top 11 and had a road game, it did not look good. There were five upsets, and it took a 25-point deficit and a miracle for Miami to come storming back late in the game to shock Cal. College Football is awesome.
Texas A&M hosted 9th ranked Missouri and it was all Aggies until late in the third quarter when Missouri was finally able to score. Missouri had no business being ranked that high. If you looked at their schedule, they have played nobodies up until this point. Aggies won big 41-10.
After losing to Notre Dame last week, could Louisville bounce back at home against SMU? The answer was no. This game went back and forth, and honestly it was a tossup. It was a "whoever scores last wins” type of game. And that is how it ended. After Louisville tied the game up at 27, SMU scored the final TD and won 34-27.
I was not quite sure what to make of the Boston College and Virginia game. This was another tossup for me. Boston College took an early 14-0 lead, but they were unable to score any more points and Virginia went on to score 18 points in the fourth quarter to win 24-14.
After getting upset on the road at Kentucky the week prior, Ole Miss had no problem handling business at home against South Carolina and held them to only a field goal. Ole Miss 27-3.
By looking at our picks, we all knew Virginia Tech would have no problem going on the road against Stanford. If you watched the game, even the fans did not want to be there. Their stadium looked empty. That is when you know your team is no good. The Hokies won 31-7.
Undefeated Rutgers hosted Nebraska in a Big Ten defensive battle. Or was it a just a lack of offense? Either way you look at it, there was only a total of 525 yards. The Huskers handed the Scarlet Knights their first loss of the season and after a bye week, they will travel to face an undefeated Indiana team.
Out of six weeks, Oklahoma State has been on the picks for five of those weeks. Admin, I think we all need a break from them please. Nothing else to say but West Virginia beat Oklahoma State 38-14.
Washington hosted Michigan in a National Championship game rematch. (Michigan won the one that mattered though…just wanted to put that out there). I saw a little life in our passing game after they benched Orji and put it Tuttle. But he had three costly turnovers, and the Huskies won 27-17. At least Michigan has a bye week this week. They need it. It’s going to get rough in this last stretch of games.
I didn’t watch too much of the UCF and Florida game. Frankly, I just don’t like the Gators. The Gator’s defense held UCF to a total of 273 yards. That is pretty low considering UCF is averaging over 543 yards per game. Gators won 24-13.
Down by three points, Hawaii was stuffed on 4th and two from San Diego State’s defense with just over a minute left in the game. After calling their two final timeouts, Hawaii forced the Aztecs to a three and out but were pinned deep into their own territory with only four seconds left and Hawaii lost 27-24.
FUN FACT: There are currently 12 undefeated teams. Texas is the only undefeated SEC team. Go figure. The newcomer.
On to Pick’ems…
Marc went ahead and checked out of first place and boy did he take a dive. But hey Marc, the good news is, you are only 14 points from the top, so it is very doable. But if you ask me, I think Evelyn gave you some bad advice. She got mad because she lost first place and that saying "If I cant have it, you can’t” rings true.
With a stellar week, Noah crawled out from the trenches and is sitting in 5th place overall.
Speaking of trenches, I see Mike H. and Rick have adjusted well to having Adam with them in the bottom. It seems as if neither of them wants to leave. Is that where all the "cool” kids hang out at like they sit in the back of a classroom? By the looks of it, Megan is trying to get into the "it” crowd and will soon be joining you unless she turns her picks around this week. Might as well throw David in there too.
My oh my, look who is in first place…Can she handle the pressure? There's only one way to go from first place.
After finishing in the top three for the week, both Kim and I squeezed our way into second and third overall. I have the momentum coming from dead last.
Let’s see if I can hang on. Sam is still sitting on the outside looking in but will need to have a great week to crack the top three spots.
Sean and Mike M. had a subpar week scoring below 30 points. As of now, they are the only Meggers that have a shot at any prize money.
We have had 5 different winners for the weekly prize. Who’s turn will it be this week? Will we get a repeat winner? My prediction is Mike H. or Rick. Don’t let me down.
Most points for the week: Noah nailed 41 points in a tough week to get his $10 weekly cash. I Doubt it can do it again.
Least points for the week: Marc is the first one to fall victim of hitting the teens. He only won three games totaling 14 points.
Best pick of the week: Evelyn picking West Virginia over Oklahoma State and Noah picking Washington to beat Meeeeechigan. Talk about getting lucky.
Worst pick of the week: Marc had a bunch…Take you pick.
Here are the rankings after Week 6:
1. Cindie – 231 points
2. Kim – 226 points
3. Wendi – 224 points
4. Sam – 222 points
5. Noah – 220 points

11. Megan – 216 points
12. Mike H. – 213 points

There is a 28-point difference from first to last place.
