House of Horrors
Written by David
Week 7 was horrifying for a bunch of us. More on that in a moment, but let’s briefly recap what happened on Saturday.
This week’s games featured the power 4 conferences.
Things continue to go south in the ACC for North Carolina who’s on a four-game losing skid after losing to Georgia Tech 41-34. The Tar Heels are now 0-3 in conference play.
In the newly formed Big 10, #2 Oregon bested #4 Ohio State 32-31 in a back-and-forth affair and now sits on top of the Big 10 standings with two other undefeated teams in #3 Penn State and #16 Indiana. The Nittany Lions of Penn State had to go into overtime to beat USC in a 33-30 thriller. Iowa finally found some offense and pulled away late to beat Washington 40-16. Rutgers, who had been a perennial doormat in the Big 10, got absolutely crushed by Wisconsin 42-7, but were looking decent prior to the loss. Whether you like it or not, conference realignment is making the Big 10 conference fun again.
There were a couple of Big 12 matchups on the picks for Week 7. #11 Iowa State remains undefeated after beating a good West Virginia Team 28-16. Elsewhere, Cincinnati went to Orlando and got by UCF 19-13.
Around the SEC, Top ranked Texas won the Red River Shootout over 18th ranked Oklahoma 34-3. The Longhorns scored 21 second quarter points, and the Sooners never recovered. In the other match-up featuring ranked teams, #13 LSU won in overtime over #9 Ole Miss 29-26. Vanderbilt continues to roll and has improved to 4-2 overall after beating Kentucky 20-13.
On to Pick’ems…
Yay! We’ve made it to the halfway point in the contest. Everyone’s still in this thing, Yes, even Rick…who seems to be playing a different game than the rest of us.
It’s almost like the Pick’ems contest has recently been some sort of House of Horrors where someone from the top takes an absolute beating. Evelyn went through it in Week 5, Marc and Megan went through it in Week 6, and Kim took a thrashing in the house of horrors so bad that I’m not sure if she’ll ever recover.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are beginning to think Rick has taken up residence in that house.
However, a giggling Wendi and Sam are trying to convince Cindie to enter the house of horrors who has been in the top spot for two straight weeks now.
Marc was left for dead after scoring only 14 points in Week 6, but 43 points later, is back in second place after Week 7! How the heck does that happen? Well, the margin for error is paper thin right now from 1st to 13th place. From 1st place to 9th place, there’s only a 15-point difference which can be made up in a week.
Sean’s been loitering around the top of the rankings for far too long. He’s even got into third place on a couple of occasions. But we all know what’s about to happen. It’s like watching the movie Titanic. Yeah, there’s a cute love story and all, but we all know in the back of our minds the ship is going to sink at some point.
Most points for the week: Marc won the $10 weekly prize after ripping off an unbelievable 43 points in Week 7.
Least points for the week: Kim totaled only 15 points. She whiffed on her 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6 point games. She went from 2nd to 11th in a hurry. Yeesh!
Best Pick of the week: Marc was the lone wolf that picked Vanderbilt over Kentucky, and it paid huge dividends.
Worst Pick of the week: Lets go with Adam, Rick, and Kim placing 10 points on Kentucky beating Vanderbilt. Collectively, all three of them are in the bottom four overall.
Here’s how we ranked going into Week 8:
1. Cindie – 261 points
2. Marc – 260 points
3. Sam – 256 points
4. Wendi – 255 points
5. Sean – 253 Points
6. Noah 252 points
7. Evelyn – 250 points
8. Mike M. – 249 points
9. David – 246 points
10. Megan – 243 points
11. Kim – 241 points
12. Mike H. – 240 points
13. Adam – 238 points
14. Rick – 223 points
There's a 38-point gap from the top to the bottom!
