Week 6 Review

Written by David

Week 6 of the 2025 college football season delivered a buffet of upsets, redemption arcs, and playoff shakeups that had fans, and even some of us, screaming at their TVs.

The headline-grabber was UCLA, who went from winless to world-shockers by stunning No. 7 Penn State 42–37. With Jerry Neuheisel calling plays like a caffeinated mad scientist and QB Nico Lamaleava running wild, the Bruins pulled off a historic upset — the first time a team 0-4 beat a Top-10 opponent since 1985. Penn State’s defense looked like it was prepping for a game of tag, not tackle.

Meanwhile, Florida snapped a three-game skid by chomping down on No. 9 Texas, 29–21. Arch Manning tossed two late picks, and Billy Napier might’ve saved his job with a gritty win. Texas, once the preseason No. 1, now looks more like a Power Four pretender than contender.

In the Sunshine State showdown, Miami flexed its dominance by beating No. 18 Florida State 28–22, completing a clean sweep of Florida’s top programs. Freshman WR Malachi Toney lit up the scoreboard, and the Hurricanes raced to a 28–3 lead before letting FSU make the score look less embarrassing.

Alabama got its revenge on Vanderbilt, winning 30–14 in a game that felt like a personal vendetta after last year’s upset. The Tide defense did its part after Diego Pavia and the offense practiced the victory formation during pregame warmups and even tossed the ball up in a mock celebration. Needless to say… it backfired. Alabama was fired up and didn’t give up a single point after halftime.

Over in the Midwest, Cincinnati derailed No. 14 Iowa State’s playoff dreams with a 38–30 win, sending the Cyclones’ hype train off the rails and into the "maybe next year” pile.

Appalachian State edged out Oregon State 27–23 in a thriller, jumping to a quick 17–0 lead before surviving a late surge from the Beavers. Despite Maalik Murphy’s 358 passing yards and a dazzling TD run by David Wells Jr., App State’s defense held strong with a clutch pick and goal-line stand to seal the win. Oregon State brought the stats, but App State brought the receipts — and a shovel to bury the Beavers who are still winless at 0-6.

On to Pick’ems…

Sam is STILL sitting at the top with 225 points. If this were a race, Sam’s already showered, changed, and doing interviews while the rest of us are still running. He’s got a whopping 16-point lead over 2nd place.

Wendi, Sean, Adam, David, and Kim hit the 40+ point club this weekend. A total of nine of us have now hit 40-plus points or higher. Sam and Adam are the only ones to do it twice. That’s part of the reason they’re in the top two spots chilling like it’s a VIP lounge. The real question now is… who’s going to break the 50-point barrier?

Out of the last six weeks, Evelyn’s been the lowest scorer twice and the top scorer once, which means her consistency is about as reliable as a volatile stock.

Remember when Chris D was in 3rd place and still complaining? Fast forward—he’s now deeper in the rankings, staring at his picks like they betrayed him. At this point, he’s not rethinking football… he’s rethinking his life choices.

Unless something radically shifts—Marc, Noah, Mike M, Eveyln, and I aren’t sniffing the top 3. Right now, we’re just the people everyone else makes fun of.

Most Points for the week: Both Wendi and Sean tied with 41 points each. That means $20 is on the line for this week’s winner.

Least Points for the week: Marc, Mike M, and Evelyn each scored a not so majestic 27 points this week—just enough to prove they showed up. At this rate, they’re not climbing the rankings, they’re tunneling under them.

Best Pick of the week: There’s a reason Sam keeps flexing at the top—he was the only one bold enough to pick Wake Forest over Virginia Tech, then casually slapped 5 points on it like he was betting on sunrise. Meanwhile, everyone else backed Virginia Tech and got third degree burns.

Worst Pick of the week: Marc’s 10-point-head scratcher pick of Boston College over Pittsburgh was utterly horrendous.

Here’s how we rank heading into the last week:

Sam– 225 points

Adam – 209 points

Sean – 208 points

Wendi – 206 points

Rick M – 195 points

Mike H – 189 points
