Week 13 Review

Written by David

Overall, all the teams in the College Football Playoff top 14 won and most doing so convincingly. Especially Notre Dame’s 70-7 demolition of Syracuse who to no surprise is looking for style points. However, conference championship games are starting to become a bit clearer.

Texas Tech and BYU are the clear frontrunners and are expected to meet in the Big 12 Title game barring major upsets. Utah and Arizona State remain alive but need BYU to stumble and other results to break their way. Houston and Cincinnati were eliminated after Week 13 losses, leaving the Red Raiders and Cougars in control of their destiny.

Indiana and Ohio State lead the Big Ten and are favored to meet in Indianapolis. Oregon stayed alive with a win over USC, but needs Michigan to beat Ohio State and then help from Washington to clinch a spot. USC’s loss to Oregon effectively knocked the Trojans out contention, leaving a possible Indiana vs Ohio State showdown if both win next week.

Texas A&M controls its path and clinches a spot in the SEC Title Game with a win over Texas next week. Alabama is most likely in with a win over rival Auburn since the Tide already holds the tiebreaker edge over Georgia. However, if Bama loses to Auburn, Georgia may get the nod in the Title Game considering they would hold the tiebreaker edge over Ole Miss. Ole Miss probably needs losses from both Bama and A&M to even get in. That may not even be enough though.

The ACC is in complete chaos though. With Pittsburgh upsetting Georgia Tech 42-28, there are now three 6-1 teams in conference play (Virginia, Pitt, and SMU). Then there are three teams that have two conference losses (Georgia Tech, Miami, and Duke). If Virginia, Pitt, and SMU all win this coming weekend, Virginia and SMU will play for the conference title. If only two of those teams win, then we’ll know who’s in. But…Pitt hosts Miami, Virginia plays Virginia Tech, and SMU travels to Cal. If two of the teams in Virginia, Pitt, or SMU lose, then things will turn into a dumpster fire very quickly.

But hey, Week 14 is rivalry week. Nothing wild ever happens then…right? Right?

On to Pick’ems…

In a crazy turn of events, Sam committed the ultimate goal-line blunder…dropping the ball in celebration just before crossing into the end zone—only for Sean to scoop it up and take it the other way for a scoop-and-score. It’s a huge momentum shift and now Sean holds a commanding 14-point lead heading into the final two weeks.

Sam still sits in second place, but his 35-point week opened the door to Adam who is closing in on him.

Wendi’s 33-point week may have shoved her out of third place for good. All Wendi had to do, was take the snap and take a knee to run some clock. Instead, she threw a pick-6 and now Cindie and Adam have passed her up.  Wendi’s a whopping 18-points down from third place and currently sits in 5th place.

Meanwhile, Adam is all smiles and had a few good chuckles at the expense of others.

Speaking of Cindie, she oh-so-casually strolled into the 50+ Point Club with her 50-point performance. Now it’s Evelyn (55), Sean (54), and Cindie (50) sitting in their imaginary VIP lounge, probably debating which sparkling water pairs best with dominance. Honestly, that club sounds a bit too snobby for the rest of us peasants anyway.

Maybe it’s a coincidence that Wendi and Sam both did terrible on the picks this week. I mean they do live under the same roof, eat the same food, and take the same vacations. They couldn’t possibly be making the same picks too right?

Most Points for the week: Sean ripped off 54 points and made off with the $10 weekly prize. However, a much larger prize is in sight. He also joined the 50+ point club.

Least Points for the week: Mike M. was only able to muster up 31 points out of his five wins.

Best Pick of the week: Sean and Chris were the only ones to pick Pittsburgh over Georgia Tech, and it paid off. That was a lone bright spot for Chris this past weekend.

Worst Pick of the week: Kim and Mike M. both putting 8-points on Nebraska to beat Penn State was a bit of a head scratcher. But hey, if they’d won, Kim and Mike M. would be featured above.

Here’s how we rank heading into Week 14:

Sean M – 502 points

Samuel – 488 points
