Week 15 Review
Written by David
The College Football regular season ended with Championship weekend in the books. However, Week 15 did deliver some shockers.
The Hoosiers stunned Ohio State 13-10 to win their first outright Big Ten title since 1945. Indiana finished 13-0 and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs. Ohio State dropped to No. 2 but still secured a first-round bye.
Georgia dominated Alabama 28-7 in the SEC Championship game. The Tide offense was smothered by the Dawg Defense all game. The Bulldogs looked every bit like a championship favorite with a balanced attack and relentless defense. Alabama still snuck into the playoff as the No. 9 seed as Georgia earned the No. 3 seed and a first round bye.
Texas Tech absolutely rolled BYU 34-7 for the Big 12 crown. BYU committed four turnovers, and Tech made them pay. The Raid Raider defense appears to be legit and earned the No. 4 seed.
Duke upended Virginia 27-20 in overtime to win the ACC title, and as a result, booted the Cavaliers from the playoff. With Virginia losing, Miami ended up sneaking into the college football playoff as the No. 10 seed.
Thanks to their conference championship wins, Tulane and James Madison earned playoff spots as the No. 11 and No. 12 seeds. Boise State, Kennesaw State, and Western Michigan also claimed titles. It’s the first time two Group of Five teams cracked the bracket.
The 12- Team CFP bracket is now set.
On to Pick’ems…
Sean is your first-place finisher winning the top cash prize. Honestly, I never thought I would write that sentence ever… But maybe it’s a good thing so he can get his wife something nice for Christmas for a change. All kidding aside, Sean pretty much boat raced everyone and won by a whopping 42 points!
Adam’s conquest of second place was nothing short of impressive. It took him a total of five weeks to pass Samuel. Rumor has it that Adam gave Samuel a headstart before actually trying.
And yeah, Sam came oh so close from whiffing out on getting any money at all. His 2-point pick of Indiana over Ohio State saved him from Cindie who was hunting him down. At one point of the day, Cindie slid into the 3rd place slot but couldn’t hold on as the day progressed. But honestly, Sam was sitting pretty from the start of this contest. He was in 1st place for a total of 11 weeks and was heading toward a big pay day. However, he stumbled, fumbled, and bumbled away the final three weeks of the contest.
Someone had to finish at the bottom, but Chris was holding down last place as if it were his full-time job. He was most consistent at being inconsistent.
Wendi’s still not over the Michigan loss to Ohio State and was frantically collecting internet memes of Ohio State fans and taking joy in their loss to Indiana. Now’s probably the time to offer up a good therapist to Wendi if you have one. In fact, you might want to make the first appointment for her. Something tells me she’s not going willingly.
Most Points for the week: Kim finally decided to have fun by collecting 33 points and the $10 weekly prize.
Least Points for the week: Samuel may have taken the 3rd place prize money, but he sure stunk it up on the last week of the contest by only snagging 15 total points!
Best Pick of the week: Let’s roll with Mike H and Marc picking Duke to shock Virginia in the ACC Championship game. However, that pick of Indiana over Ohio State was a pretty good pick for Samuel and I.
Worst Pick of the week: Outside of his Indiana pick, most of everything else that Samuel picked ended up being a dud. He lost 5 of the 9 games.
Here’s how we finished:
Sean M – 581 points
Adam – 539 points
Samuel – 535 points
Cindie – 534 points
Kim – 526 points
Wendi – 512 points
Mike H – 509 points
David – 509 points
Rick M– 508 points
Noah – 488 points
Evelyn – 474 points
Marc – 448 points
Mike M – 442 points
Chris D – 399 points
